Oosters Belgian Brasserie
AN AUTHENTIC BELIGIAN EXPERIENCE IN THE HEART OF CHINATOWN

After you’ve sampled all the local delicacies in Singapore, it’s sometimes nice to try something a little different. Which is where Oosters Belgian Brasserie comes in.

Offering an authentic Belgian experience, Oosters has over 23 different Belgian beers available (many of them exclusively in Singapore) along with it mouth-watering menu of Belgian cuisine.

The name, Oosters, is Belgian for “Oriental”, and sitting in one of the old shophouses that lines Pekin Street in Chinatown, this restaurant and bar mixes its European flavour nicely with the Singaporean surrounds.

The food is authentic Belgian cuisine with favourites such as mussels cooked in five different sauces. We recommend the Mussels and Chips served up with Mayonnaise ($17 per 1/2-kilo serving) or the Braised Lamb Shank ($19).

Oosters also serves up a range of 23 different Belgian beers (of varying strengths) to wash all the good food down – many of which are not available anywhere else in Singapore.

Duvel, Kwak, Chimay and many others are available, all served up in each beer’s own unique glass. You’re also assured of the perfect pour on your beer as Oosters is proud to have the Singapore Draftmasters Champion tending bar.

Opening hours: 12pm-12am Mon-Thu, 12pm-2am Sat. Happy Hour: Daily till 9pm.

Beer Cellar
COLD BEER AND GOOD FOOD

Just a few doors down the road from Oosters is Beer Cellar.

Today Beer Cellar occupies one of the restored shophouses along Pekin Street and is a regular hangout for both expats and locals that work in the area. It is a friendly place serving up good English food along with a huge range of cold beer.

We recommend the All Day Breakfast ($14) or the Bangers and Mash ($13) if you have a craving for some good English fare, while the Tapas is also good ($6-$9 each). Pizzas are also available here all night long ($14-$17 each).

The bar has quickly established itself as a favourite amongst expats and locals alike and it’s also known as a good place to catch live telecasts of all the big soccer and rugby matches. Coolies also organises a golf day trip once a month to Indonesia or Malaysia – if you’re keen, you’re always welcome, just call the number below for dates.
