THEATRE: The Candlestickmaker & Krishnan’s Dairy
The Candlestickmaker tells the story of a young New Zealand Indian student who, Lonely Planet in hand, sets off to discover India and ends up discovering the mysteries of the universe. Krishnan’s Dairy takes two of the most universal Indian clichés – the Taj Mahal and the corner store – and fuses them into a funny and touching love story. Gobi and Zina Krishnan have moved to New Zealand in search of a better life for themselves and their child. They work hard and keep their dreams stacked on the shelves of their struggling business – Krishnan’s Dairy. Krishnan’s Dairy debuted in 1997 and since then has played to over 47,000, consistently receiving rave reviews and sell out houses.

MUSICAL: Man of Letters
Singaporean Dick Lee’s first romantic musical, Man of Letters dramatises the love triangle of University of Malaya students during Singapore’s political unrest in the 1950s. Shy medical freshie Ming falls in love with the beautiful brainy Roseanne but cannot believe she would love him back. When his best friend, the handsome hot-head Gan Seng shares he too is in love with her, Ming steps back and helps him woo Roseanne by composing passionate love letters on his behalf. Their love story unfolds amidst the turbulence of a historical era marked by student riots and racial tension. Uniquely Singaporean, it will feature new music by Dick and boasts a stellar cast of home-grown talent.
